ELIOT KENNEDY LYNNEA SUNSHINE SYDNEY I don’t know much about the Cap College film program, if you end up working on this one email me and let me know how it goes for you. Because the two young actors are the leads, this is a good chance to get some on-set experience and a few good clips for your reel. Even if the final film isn’t great, if you get 30 seconds of great footage for your demo reel you can call the whole experience a success. -Michael Bean, Owner & Head Coach, Biz Studio — PROM NIGHT Reposted from Casting Workbook Production Company: Capilano College Film Centre SUBMISSIONS: To schedule an interview call Kyle Sandilands at (778) 835-2999 or email k_sandilands@hotmail.com before Monday, February 4th, 2008. STORYLINE: Prom Night is a short romantic comedy with Caitlyn and Jordan as the two young lovers in the spotlight. We follow these off beat characters through their night as they run into obstacle after obstacle until Jordan finally loses his cool, and their relationship is on the verge of collapse. [ JORDAN ] [ CAITLYN ] I just received this from Aaron at Hobbs Talent yesterday, it looks like he’s using this quiet time to scout for new talent. I take no credit for the posting, but I can say in my professional opinion Hobbs is an excellent agency and on a personal note Aaron is a good guy. Especially if you’re new to the biz it’s always good to start with the agencies that are actively seeking new talent, so here’s your chance. -Michael Bean, Owner & Head Coach, Biz Studio — Hobbs Talent Management Expanding Roster Hobbs Talent has been one of Vancouver’s leading talent agencies for over the past decade. Hobbs represents actors for Film, Television, Commmercial, Print & Voice Work and has booked clients recently on such projects as: Smallville, Fantastic Four, Eureka, Juno, Painkiller Jane, Intelligence, The Imaginarium of Dr.Parnassus, Psych, Supernatural, and hundreds of commercials just to mention a few. Hobbs agent Aaron Alexander is selectively expanding his roster @ Hobbs Talent! He has over 20 years of experience in film, television, commercials, theatre & comedy, and a wealth of knowledge about the entertainment industry. Looking for all ages, experienced or new to the industry!! Please forward all headshots & resumes by email or post to: Hobbs Talent Management – Aaron Alexander Anytime you see in a posting that the director, producer, and casting director are all listed as the same person, you can be pretty sure it’s a small-scale student film. Although they’ve asked for actors ages 17-18, they may end up casting actors who are 19+. I’d suggest going out to the audition anyway, just for practice. -Michael Bean, Owner & Head Coach, Biz Studio — BROKEN Reposted from the Vancouver Actors Guide Production Company: Vancouver Film School Audition Date: february 9th 12 pm and 9pm STORYLINE: A young man with emotional issues meets a girl with similar issues. [ JACKIE ] Here’s a really strange callout, not only do they need a couple of little girls for minor roles as dancers, but they also need a director. It’s an independent feature, which means that they have a low budget or no budget, which can make it difficult to retain talent. A couple of years ago I worked on an indie project that was delayed three times, and every time the production was pushed by another couple of months the producer had to find a new crew. That’s just the way that it works. An indie film like this one is likely being made for the circuit of film festivals, although the production company might also have plans to shop it around and look for a network or studio to back it with real $$$ and make a TV-ready version of the same film. If you (or your kids) end up on this film, it’ll be quite an experience. I’d love to hear about it! -Michael Bean, Owner & Head Coach, Biz Studio — HEART OF DANCE Reposted from the Vancouver Actors Guide Production Company: Staglite Productions Shoot Dates: Feb – June 2008 COMMENTS: This film has already cast 96 actors, our director has just quit due to personal reasons, so we need a director and someone who as access to professional filming equip. ASAP we were supposed to start filming jan 26th 2008 we still need to fill a few roles, and of course need a director if you or anyone you know is interested in directing please contact us ASAP student directors welcome with demo of work. ELIOTT KENNEDY LYNNEA SUNSHINE SYDNEY ALANNAH CELINE CLAIRE JASON MISCHA NINA SHAYLA Here’s an interesting one, an ‘open call.’ We don’t see too many of these in Vancouver, and it’s for the biggest casting director in town, Coreen Meyrs and Heike Brandstatter. They cast XMen, Fantastic Four, and 85% of all the other huge US features that come through town, plus Smallville, KyleXY and a handful of others. It can be difficult for new actors to get in to see them, so this is a great opportunity for the right actor. Open call means that you don’t need an audition time, you just need to show up. Sometimes called “cattle calls,” open call auditions can draw many many many people. If you’re serious about this one download the sides and prep them, then show up early before the audition starts with a book or an MP3 player in case there’s already a line. If masses of people show up for the audition, expect that they may not let you get all the way through the scene — they may ask you before you go in to only do the first page, the first six lines, etc. Just be prepared for anything. You’ll likely just be asked to do the Ming lines, you’ll see on the script that large parts of it are marked “FYI” which means that those parts are “For Your Information” but that you won’t be reading them in the audition. The bottom line in an open call is that if you can go in there and do a really good job with your audition, then you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you go in there and do a half-hearted job of the audition, you might as well stay home. If you’re confident about your skills, get out there and give it a shot. -Michael Bean, Owner + Head Coach, Biz Studio — GYM TEACHER: THE MOVIE Executive Producers: Lauren Levine, Jim Head, Stanley M. Brooks OPEN CALL: Casting directors Coreen Mayrs and Heike Brandstatter are conducting a search for this comedic family-oriented movie. The open casting call will be held on Wednesday January 16th between 4:00 and 6:00pm at North Shore Studios Building #4 — Main Floor, 555 Brooksbank Avenue, North Vancouver. No appointment necessary, just come at the time most convenient. You can download the sides for your audition here, please prepare the role of Ming. STORYLINE: Disgraced back in the 1988 Olympics, DAVE STEWIE has distinguished himself as a dedicated junior high gym teacher whose elite and physically fit students seem bound to win a national competition — that is, until hopelessly inept new students ROLAND WAFFLE joins their ranks… [ MING ] ======== Film, like life, is visual first. As an actor you need to know how you look on film so that you can use it to your advantage. That includes your physical appearance, grooming, clothing, accessories, makeup, etc. Each little change that you make in the way that you look will change what people think about you when they look at your image on film. When agents, directors and casting directors talk about your look they’re not just talking about how beautiful you are. What they’re talking about is what they think about you by looking at your image on camera. It includes the type of characters that they can see you playing. Knowing the type of characters you can play convincingly and well is incredibly useful. It can be very difficult for new actors to be seen by casting directors, so anything you can do to help them know how to cast you is a professional asset. You’ll want to get a headshot that showcases your look and type, for instance. Learn to use your own unique combination to your advantage and it will help you get work. EXERCISE: Take a picture of yourself on a good day and ask 10 friends, “If you hadn’t met me and you saw this picture, how would you describe me? What kind of person do you think I’d be? What would I do for a living or for fun?†Now ask 10 strangers. This should give you an idea of the kind of assumptions that people make based on your physical appearance, the way that you hold yourself, the way you smile, etc. Most of these things won’t change easily so the best thing that you can do is use them to your advantage.
