F 11-13 | Sammy: Chinese/Asian A quiet but strong young girl with a subtle confidence. She is a tomboy and outcast. She doesn’t get along with her siblings or the other girls at school. Her obsession with ice hockey is an escape from her responsibilities at home. She is resourceful in getting what she wants. Skating skills a plus.

M 12-15 | Russel: Chinese/Asian The oldest sibling in the family. He’s loud, boisterous and often rude. He gets what he wants. He hates having to include his younger sisters in everything he does.

F 6-9 | Abagail: Chinese/Asian The youngest sibling in the family. She loves all things girly, especially dolls and dresses. She is very sweet and cute. Minimal Dialogue.


Set in 1970’s Vancouver, Breakaway follows Sammy,11, a hockey obsessed third-generation Chinese Canadian girl. Her dream of one day playing in the NHL is shot down by her bullying older brother and responsibilities at home.
