This is a huge feature film so they’re doing a big open call. This is a great opportunity to put yourself on tape, submit yourself. Even if it just means that you’re getting practice reading for a lead role in a huge US feature film, that’s fantastic experience. And they just *love* to find new faces for projects like this, so if you think you’ve got a shot follow up, submit your stuff and get yourself an audition! Go to www.IAmRamona.net for all the details on how to submit yourself for the audition. -Michael Bean, Owner+Head Coach, Biz Studio

P.O. BOX 900
BEVERLY HILLS, CA 90213. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 21st.

[ RAMONA ]
Female, 9-11. Based on the beloved character from the classic children’s book series by Beverly Cleary, Ramona is a feisty and always messy 4th grade girl (9-11 years old), with straight brown hair, big brown eyes, and no cavities. She’s got calluses on her hands and she’s proud of them, because it shows she’s mastered every bar on the jungle gym. But, what makes Ramona truly unique is her vivid imagination.

She’s a dreamer in every sense – energetic, creative, passionate – so she’s always got some big new idea cooking in her brain. Unfortunately, those big plans often get her in big trouble – yet it never stops her from trying. Still, like any kid, Ramona can feel misunderstood. She’s prone to emotional outbursts when she thinks life isn’t fair. But, she’s never a snob – she just marches to her own drumbeat.

At school, Ramona’s a bright and eager student, but often feels stifled by her class lessons – so, if her vocabulary lists feel too confining, she’ll just invent a brand new word of her own, like “terrifical”. Sadly, her teachers aren’t always impressed. At home, Ramona is stuck being the middle child and often feels left out. Her baby sister gets all of Mom’s attention, while her older sister Beezus is a perfect, straight-A student whom everybody adores – so it’s hard for Ramona to compete. Yet when her dad loses his job, Ramona takes on a new mission: she’ll save her family and save their house! She launches all sorts of schemes – and as usual, some prove more disastrous that others. But it’s always with an unbreakable spirit, because Ramona’s heart is forever in the right place.

There’s a note in the breakdown about cold reading, that means if you go in for this one they’ll give you a few pages from the script and ask you to perform that scene “cold” (i.e. with no preparation). One of the tricks to doing a good cold read is to practice sight reading, the ability to drop your eyes to a script, quickly pick up a line, then look up and say it. 15min of practice a day and you’ll be a master sight reader in two weeks… most people will never put in the time, so if you do it’ll make you that much better than everyone else. -Michael Bean, Owner+Head Coach, Biz Studio

Female, 16-19.

I can’t be sure from the breakdown that went up on Vancouver Actors Guide whether they’re looking for kids, but if you’re keen to get some comedy footage for your demo reel, or if you’re in high school now and excited about sketch comedy and improv this could be a good opportunity for you. If you audition for it, keep an open mind AND make sure you don’t commit to anything until you get a sense of how organized they are and what the production values are going to be like. -Michael Bean, Owner+Head Coach, Biz Studio
