Teens Kids About Contact

Ever thought about sending a casting director something? Here are some basic rules:

Christmas cards are okay, birthday cards are a stretch, thank you cards are practically a requirement. It’s a great idea to send a little card to the casting director every time you book something. It’s both polite and professional, and keeps you on the top of their mind. If you’re keen you should also send out a little card to all the casting directors every time you’re appearing in a play or you have a good role in a film or tv series. It’s very normal in Los Angeles, but only a few people do it here.

When you book your first speaking role, or if you book a role that’s bigger than the one’s that you normally audition for, it means that the casting director has been pushing for you. A small thank you gift is very appropriate in that case. Keep it simple, you can almost never go wrong with chocolate or flowers, for instance. Never ever send gifts unless you’re booking with that casting director… it makes you look desperate. Never give a gift just because you want something. Gifts should always be an authentic appreciation of the person you’re giving to. How’s that for a holiday thought?

Just when you were feeling full of winter blahs, a dance movie! It looks like there are a couple of good supporting roles (i.e. speaking roles) and then a bunch of non-speaking roles. Doing work like this can be a good chance to meet local indie filmmakers, and hey sometimes the films are fantastic. And even when they aren’t, you can usually get 30 seconds of footage for your demo reel plus a couple of days experience on set, and that’s good for any actor. -Michael Bean, Head Coach, Biz Studio

[ NAZGUL ]

A 10 to 12 year old Afghan girl with bright eyes; MUST SPEAK FARSI. She is intelligent, playful, full of energy and curious, with a warm, loving family. She is the darling of everyone. A huge tragedy causes the loss of her family, and as the sole survivor, the local warlord takes her in as his future third wife. Nazgul must grieve for her lost family, as she traumatically endures and experiences her new relationship with the warlord. The uninhibited days of her childhood are over, and she has to accept her lowly new status – performing household chores ( washing , cleaning, baking etc) and the abuse of being a third wife. After she gets saved by her American cousin – someone she never knew — Nazgul slowly finds the strength and courage to rise above her role as victim. She finds love, hope, and her own voice, finally able to speak up for herself and her beliefs. She should speak Farsi and some English. (Preferably her English with accent). She will ride on the back of a motorcycle with no helmet — acting panicked, fearful and full of despair, but with a measure of joy and playfulness. Nazgul must also be comfortable in the presence of women, men of all ages and be able to tolerate the noise of blank gunshot rounds. (speaks 57 times /21 speaking scenes/ 53 scenes total)
