Here’s an interesting one–it looks like a student from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is coming up to Vancouver to shoot this short film. What’s great about that is UCLA films have good exposure in Los Angeles, and since the kid roles in this film are the leads there’s the possibility that this film will help your career. I’ve heard of actors being scouted by agencies after roles in student films, or even scouted directly by other productions. It doesn’t happen as much in Canada, but LA’s a much bigger market so there’s a chance. This student film is looking for a boy to play an SOC role in a science-fiction short. SOC means “silent on camera” so the role won’t require any speaking–which makes it a good opportunity for a very new actor looking to build their demo reel. Richard O’Conner–with whom she has fallen deeply in love.

Pantomimes are fun, waaaaaaay over the top theatre pieces with goofy characters, slapstick comedy and cheesy one-liners. Some panto’s mix amateur actors and more experienced actors. Many excellent characters abound in this great fun panto.
