Teens Kids About Contact

I received an email a few days ago from a production company in Toronto that’s looking for a girl to play “Anne” in a new Anne of Green Gables TV series. They’re asking interested actors to either submit a video on YouTube or send a DVD to their offices, see below under “submissions”. My guess is that as long as you’ve got fair skin, they’ll be willing to dye your hair red. They’ll be looking for someone with the right kind of look, and especially the right kind of attitude. The press release uses the word “spunky” several times. If you decide to audition, first read the original press release from Sullivan Entertainment. Good luck with this one! -Michael Bean, Head Coach, Biz Studio

STORYLINE: What was life like for Anne before she arrived at Green Gables? According to Kevin Sullivan in his quest to bring Anne Shirley to life in the original mini-series, “The only starting point that I could find in interpreting Anne’s character was to figure out where she came from before she was at Green Gables. In the book, she just shows up at the train station. But I needed to who she was before she was brought to Prince Edward Island. I could only imagine that a child who had that kind of flamboyant imagination had to have already created her own world out of a need to escape an unusual past.”

[ ANNE SHIRLEY ]
Looking for a young Anne who looks 10-12. Full of life, full of spark and able to give us those timeless and imaginative qualities.

The Metro Theatre is close enough to downtown that there’s a chance that casting people might come see you, they often put on semi-professional productions and attract skilled actors. If that isn’t enough reason to do a play, casting directors like to see current theatre on your resume as well, plus it’ll be good practice for the right actor. From the original posting it looks like an “open call” which means that you can just show up on the audition dates posted below, and they’ll give you a copy of the script and ask you to read from it for your audition piece. If you’re really keen, go to the library and read the play before going to the audition so you know what to expect. Enjoy! -Michael Bean, Head Coach, Biz Studio
