(Here’s another longshot, reposted from Actors Access and originally posted on Friday June 16th. What they’re looking for is so specific that they’ve opened it up to the wide world. They’re looking for a young African actor who’s first language is NOT English. If it’s you, more power to you! You may have to submit yourself electronically via the Actors Access website — expect to be charged a small fee.)

[ OTA BENGA ]
Ota is a young tribal man (16-25 years old) from Africa. He is not quite 5 feet tall, and now lives at Queenie’s home. He is calm and serene and has survived slavery, war, cannibalism and fame in his time, he is deeply in touch with his own humanity — and sees that Benjamin is not. A fearless person who loves to talk about his romantic, adventurous life, Ota befriends Benjamin (who is still an old man with the mind and experiences of a child), and accompanies him on his first footsteps into the big world, telling him wild stories about his past and subtly urging Benjamin to find within himself the strength to be a free man…LEAD (35) ACTOR NEEDS TO HAVE AN AFRICAN DIALECT AS HIS FIRST LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH AS HIS SECOND LANGUAGE
STORY LINE: On her deathbed, DAISY tells her daughter CAROLINE the story of her lifelong romance with the remarkable BENJAMIN BUTTON, who was born old and lived backwards, and of Benjamin’s extraordinary life, from old age to manhood to infancy…

(reposted from Actors Access : this one’s a long shot, but a huge break if you get it. They’ve been casting for over a month, and this was posted online on June 13th, which means they’re having trouble finding just the right weirdo. You never know, it might be you!)

PLEASE NOTE: This project is likely R-rated so actors (and parents, if actors are minors) should be aware of and comfortable with the language involved. ALSO: We are looking to cast real teenagers; NOT twenty-somethings to play younger… Actors should be 16-19 age range.
[ FOGELL ]
Male, 16 to 18. A Los Angeles high school junior or senior. Pure high school weirdo nerd oddball kid. Bad hair and fashion sense, poor judgement in social situations. Other kids avoid him, but Seth and Evan hang around with him because it’s their little group. Fogell is a mystery. Could turn out well, could turn out dangerous. He is generally an optimistic person even though Seth in particular gives him a lot of grief and takes advantage of him. (Also, in the script he is described as small, but he can be any height or weight – it’s the weird in him that matters…)
STORYLINE: Two loser high school guys want to “get with girls” before they graduate and go off to different colleges, but, after a calamitous night just trying to buy alcohol for a school party, it doesn’t really work out for them.

Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company is holding their general auditions on July 5, 11 and 13. A “general audition” means that they aren’t casting a specific show, but are looking for new talent for their upcoming season. It’s one way to be seen by Bill Millerd–the Artistic Director of the Arts Club and the guy who casts all the shows. If you decide to apply for an audition space and get one, make sure you bring your best stuff. Lots of people do the general audition each year, and you have to be truly exceptional to stand out and make an impression.
Here’s the rest of the info, cut-and-pasted from the VPL theatre audition listings site:
“Bill Millerd, Artistic Director for the company will be attending. Those who have auditioned for Mr. Millerd in the last year need not re-submit. Auditioners will be asked to prepare one contemporary monologue not more than 3 minutes in length. Please send a photo and resume to: General Auditions The Arts Club Theatre 1585 Johnston St. Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9. Please do not submit resumes by fax or email. The deadline for applications will be the end of business on Monday, June 26, 2006. Selected applicants will then be contacted to arrange an appointment. Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls.”
